The Different categories of LGV / PCV licence are listed below:

C1 Rigid goods vehicle between 3500 kg and 7500 kg towing a trailer up to 750 kg. This class of vehicle is commonly known as a ‘7.5 tonner’.
C1+E As for category C1 but towing a trailer over 750 kg (total weight not more than 12000 kg). This class of vehicle is commonly known as a ‘7.5 tonner + trailer’.
C Rigid goods vehicle over 7500 kg towing a trailer up to 750 kg. This class of vehicle is commonly known as ‘Class 2 / LGV2 / HGV2 or rigid’.
C+E A rigid vehicle towing any size of trailer. This class of vehicle is commonly known as ‘Class 1 / LGV1 / HGV1 or articulated’.
D1 Minibuses with between 9 and 16 passenger seats towing a trailer up to 750 kg.

To commence a LGV / PCV training course you will need a provisional LGV / PCV licence. For this you must:

  • Be 18 years of age
  • Hold a valid car licence
  • Be certified medically fit

All necessary arrangements including medical appointments and completion of application forms to enable you to obtain your provisional licence can be handled by our administrative staff.

 Trailer Towing:

B+E A car / van towing a trailer over 750 kg. Candidates who passed their car test after 01/01/1997 are required to take a test to pull a trailer over 750 kg. Your car licence will have a provisional entitlement so no medical / provisional application is required.
